Wilkes-Barre, PENNSYLVANIA - Today, Affordable Pennsylvania released the third ad of its seven-figure accountability campaign in PA-08.

The ad, “Steve,” features a Wilkes-Barre resident who is a prostate cancer survivor and relies on Medicare for his ongoing health care. In the ad, he calls out Congressman Rob Bresnahan for voting for cuts to Medicare and Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaires.

Last summer, Congressman Bresnahan voted for the Republican Tax Law, which cut Medicaid by over $900 billion and made changes that will delay or exclude certain prescription drugs from Medicare drug price negotiations – all to pay for bigger tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Medicaid provides health coverage to almost 3 million Pennsylvanians, including over 200,000 Pennsylvanians in PA-08. These cuts will rip care away from hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians, threaten 60,000 health care jobs across the Commonwealth, and put several local hospitals at risk of closure.

“Being told I had prostate cancer was one of the last things I expected to hear. Thankfully, because my cancer was caught early, I was able to get treatment and beat it. Now, I rely on Medicare for routine check ups that keep me healthy, not just for myself, but so I can be here for my grandchild,” said Steve of Wilkes-Barre. “That’s why it makes me angry that my congressman, Rob Bresnahan, would vote to cut Medicare and Medicaid to give huge tax breaks to large corporations and billionaires. Access to health care saved my life, and losing it would be devastating to families like mine. Rep. Bresnahan needs to reverse these cuts and start looking out for constituents like me.”

Read a Transcript of “Steve” Below:

Steve: “You have prostate cancer.” That was the last thing I wanted to hear. But thanks to early detection, I beat it.

Now I rely on Medicare for ongoing check ups.

So it burns me up that Congressman Rob Bresnahan voted to cut Medicare and Medicaid to give huge tax breaks to corporations and billionaires.

And voted to stop allowing Medicare to negotiate for lower prices for some prescription drugs, including cancer drugs

Losing Medicare would be devastating to so many people.

I hope Congressman Bresnahan starts looking out for people like me.”
