Dalton, PENNSYLVANIA - Today, Affordable Pennsylvania launched its first ad in Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district as part of a new seven-figure accountability campaign across TV, digital, and print media, calling on Congressman Rob Bresnahan to stop cutting Medicaid. This campaign builds onto Affordable Pennsylvania’s existing $4 million dollar program that has been running ads in PA-07 and PA-10.
The ad, “Jennifer,” features a registered nurse from Dalton who has spent 30 years providing care to Northeast Pennsylvania. In the ad, she explains how Congressman Rob Bresnahan sold stock in Medicaid providers before voting for historic cuts to the program, prioritizing profit while his constituents lose their care.
“Congressman Bresnahan’s vote to gut Medicaid to give bigger tax breaks to billionaires was already a huge blow to his more than 200,000 constituents who rely on that coverage. But the fact that he sold his stock in Medicaid providers ahead of the vote means he not only prioritized billionaires over Pennsylvanians - he also put profit over them,” said Jennifer P., RN. “Medicaid provides care to some of our community’s most vulnerable members. For Congressman Bresnahan to gut the program for potential profit is deplorable. We need him to reverse these Medicaid cuts and start standing up for Pennsylvanians.”
Congressman Bresnahan’s vote last summer for the Republican Tax Law made historic cuts to Medicaid, breaking his numerous promises to protect the program and threatening care for his more than 200,000 constituents who rely on Medicaid. These cuts will skyrocket health care costs, cut tens of thousands of jobs across the Commonwealth, put hospitals and nursing homes at risk of closure, and drive up the number of uninsured Americans in every state and every congressional district in the country, increasing the uninsured population of his own district by 31,000 individuals.
Shortly following the bill’s passage, it came to light that Rep. Bresnahan - who campaigned in 2024 on a stock trading ban for lawmakers - sold six figure’s of his stake in Pennsylvania hospitals just weeks before he voted for Medicaid cuts.
Read a Transcript of “Jennifer” Below:
Jennifer: As a nurse for 30 years, I’ve seen what it’s like when hospitals are stretched to the brink.
My patients rely on our care, and Medicaid.
I’ve absolutely seen Medicaid save my patients’ lives.
But Congressman Bresnahan voted to cut Medicaid to give huge tax breaks to corporations and billionaires.
Bresnahan even sold stock in Medicaid providers before he voted to cut it.
Now, hospitals in Pennsylvania might close.
That would be catastrophic.
Congressman Bresnahan put profit over Pennsylvanians.
I sure wish he would fight for us instead.
