Affordable Pennsylvania Calls on Bresnahan to Permanently Expand Enhanced Health Care Tax Credits

Rep. Bresnahan Supported a Measure That Allows Credits to Expire in 2027, Skyrocketing Health Care Costs for 20,000+ Constituents
September 10, 2025
PENNSYLVANIA - Despite supporting ACA-related cuts in the Republican Tax Law, last week Congressman Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) signed onto a bill to temporarily extend enhanced ACA tax credits for one year, letting them expire in January 2027. This bill does not go far enough when 23,000 of his constituents rely on these tax credits for affordable care. Without these credits, a 60-year old couple making $82,000 in Bresnahan's district would face a 275% increase in premium payments.
When signing onto this bill, Bresnahan admitted that letting these tax credits expire would be “pulling the rug out abruptly” and “could create disruption and hardship” for Pennsylvanians in NEPA - yet he wasn’t looking out for the most vulnerable when he voted to gut Medicaid and raise health care costs. Now, rather than permanently extending the tax credits, he’s choosing to let this disruption and hardship happen just one year later with a temporary extension.
“If Congress fails to act and lets these tax credits expire, my clients will see extreme increases in their premiums. The cost of care for a 60 year old making $60,000/year could skyrocket to between $700 and $1500 per month,” said Elijah D’Angola, local insurance agent and PA-08 constituent. “These enhanced tax credits help working families afford quality care, benefit small businesses like mine, and keep our community healthy and safe. I urge Congressman Bresnahan to make these tax credits permanent.”
“These tax credits have been enormously successful in helping working Pennsylvanians access affordable, quality care. Letting these credits expire would hurt Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth, most of all our vulnerable communities,” said Rachele Fortier, executive director of Affordable Pennsylvania. “Families will face skyrocketing costs for care. Congressman Bresnahan can’t just push this deadline to avoid accountability - he must commit to permanently extending these credits for the health and wellbeing of families in his district and across Pennsylvania.”
