For the Second Time In Just Two Months, Reps. Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07), Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), and Scott Perry (PA-10) Voted to Pass Republican Tax Scam That Cuts Critical Benefits for Working Pennsylvanians

July 3, 2025

PENNSYLVANIA - Against the urging of experts and constituents, Reps. Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07), Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), and Scott Perry (PA-10) voted to advance the Republican Tax Scam, which could cut health insurance coverage for nearly half a million Pennsylvanians and threatens the fate of food assistance in the Commonwealth. This is the second time these congressmen voted to slash Medicaid and SNAP benefits for working people to fund billionaire tax breaks, after supporting the initial version of the bill in May.

PA-07 constituent and school psychologist Michelle Ritter-Santana, who serves children whose families rely on these programs, released the below statement following the vote:

“As a school psychologist, therapist, and mother living in Bethlehem, I see everyday how policy decisions in Washington affect our local community – especially in the lives of our children. At a moment when grocery prices are soaring and global trade is unpredictable, Republicans voted to take critical assistance away from children and their families to give tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans. It’s stealing from the poor to give to the rich. I am disappointed in my congressman, Ryan Mackenzie, and his colleagues who failed to stand up for Pennsylvania’s children and instead chose to vote for this dangerous legislation.”

This bill will have devastating impacts across the Commonwealth. Nearly 3 million Pennsylvanians rely on Medicaid and over 2 million benefit from SNAP.

Affordable Pennsylvania is fighting to expose elected leaders who promised to stand with working families and lower costs, only to take vote after vote neglecting the needs of their constituents. We do this by making Pennsylvanians’ voices heard and pushing members of Congress to take meaningful action to address the skyrocketing cost of things like groceries, child care and prescription drugs.
