Southcentral PA Community Members Received Free Guidance from Local Insurance Experts When Selecting Their Plans
November 24, 2025
Harrisburg, PENNSYLVANIA — Last Friday, Affordable Pennsylvania and the First Baptist Church of Steelton held an open enrollment clinic where local insurance experts provided community members with free, guided assistance enrolling or renewing their coverage through Medicare and Pennie (Pennsylvania’s ACA marketplace) before the open enrollment deadline.
“At The First Baptist Church of Steelton, our mission has always been to love our neighbors well and to meet the real needs of our community. Partnering with Affordable PA allows us to do exactly that. Access to clear information, trustworthy guidance, and essential health resources is not just a social concern. It’s a Kingdom concern,” said Pastor Roland Caldwell Jr, Senior Pastor of The First Baptist Church of Steelton. “We believe every family deserves the opportunity to make informed decisions about their health, whether through ACA enrollment, Medicare education, or understanding the benefits available to them. This partnership reflects our commitment to serving the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—and strengthening the wellbeing of our Steelton community.”
Medicare open enrollment began October 15th and ends December 7th. Pennie open enrollment began on November 1st and Pennsylvanians have until December 15th to sign up for coverage that starts on January 1, 2026. As the enhanced tax credits that kept premiums low are set to expire, nearly half a million people who use the marketplace to get their health care could see costs soar, with an average increase of 102% statewide expected in 2026. In PA-10, net premiums are expected to increase by 170%. A discharge petition has been introduced in the House to extend these tax credits for three years. Congressman Scott Perry, who represents the region, has voted twice for funding bills that do not include an extension of the health care tax credits.
