Yale Budget Lab Found Trump’s Tariffs Would Increase Average Household Costs by $1,800 Annually

PENNSYLVANIA - Today, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on President Trump’s use of emergency powers to impose sweeping global tariffs. Congressmen Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan, and Scott Perry have continually supported Trump’s tariff power, most recently voting in September on a rule to keep Trump’s tariffs in place. These extreme tariffs are raising costs for working families, small businesses, and American consumers.
“I’ve dedicated the past 10 years of my life to building my coffee company into a cornerstone of the neighborhood that provides coffee, jobs, and community. Like most small businesses, every aspect of my business is extremely budgeted – every penny counts. These tariffs impact really small localized businesses like mine. I am dedicated to paying my employees well and paying my team well, but I am often left living paycheck to paycheck,” said Andrea Grove, owner of local coffee shop and roastery Elementary Coffee Co. “I already had to raise my prices for wholesaling in January. I can’t afford to pay the tariffs out of pocket. I need my congressman, Scott Perry, and his Republican colleagues to stand up to the Trump regime, take back their power to regulate tariffs, and lower these skyrocketing costs that have hurt small businesses like mine.”
Congressmen Mackenzie, Bresnahan, and Perry voted in September to keep the 50% tariffs on Brazil, which will continue to raise the costs of coffee, beef, cocoa, sugar, and certain fruits and seafood.
