Affordable Pennsylvania Urges PA Congressmen to Prevent Skyrocketing Health Care Costs for Working Families

PENNSYLVANIA - With just three weeks until the expiration of critical health care tax credits, Pennsylvanians are urging Representatives Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07), Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), and Scott Perry (PA-10) to prevent skyrocketing health care costs for tens of thousands of their constituents by extending health care tax credits for three years.

“The Affordable Care Act saved my life. It has allowed me to access care I otherwise couldn’t afford. But with the expiration of these tax credits, this care might soon be out of reach too,” said Lynn Weidner, Allentown resident and PA-07 constituent. “Tens of thousands of people in the Lehigh Valley similarly rely on the marketplace for life-saving care - and I would bet, like me, they can’t afford these price hikes either. Congressman Mackenzie and his Republican colleagues must join this discharge petition to extend these tax credits for at least three more years to protect the care his constituents rely on.”

With the failure of Senate health care proposals yesterday, a solution now rests with the House, where the discharge petition to extend the tax credits for three years only needs four more signatures to force a floor vote. This year, Congressmen Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan, and Scott Perry have all voted twice for funding packages that do not include an extension of these expiring health care tax credits. Nearly half a million Pennsylvanians used Pennsylvania’s marketplace to get their health insurance this year. Each congressman represents over 20,000 constituents who benefit from these tax credits. Without them, monthly premiums for Pennie enrollees are set to increase by 102% on average. Now is the time to take action - sign onto the discharge petition for a three-year extension and help prevent skyrocketing health care costs for Pennsylvanians.
