Reps. Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07), Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), and Scott Perry (PA-10) Have Promised to Lower Costs for Pennsylvanians, But This GOP Budget Bill Would Slash Benefits for Their Constituents

PENNSYLVANIA - As House members plan to vote on the Trump tax plan, which currently includes devastating cuts to crucial programs like Medicaid and SNAP, all eyes will be on Pennsylvania Representatives Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07), Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), and Scott Perry (PA-10), who have previously supported cuts to these programs, despite hundreds of thousands of their constituents relying on them to help put food on the table and pay their medical bills. These devastating cuts will be used to fund tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations.
PA-10 constituent Jackie Romero, who lives with a rare genetic condition called nail-patella syndrome and relies on Medicaid, released the following statement ahead of the vote:
“Most Americans want a streamlined, efficient Medicaid system, free from fraud and waste. But that doesn’t have to come at the expense of those who rely on this program for their very survival. These cuts are not abstract figures - they are a direct assault on my ability to manage chronic pain, a daily battle that defines my existence. They are attacks on individuals like myself, who, despite facing immense health challenges, strive to maintain our independence and participate fully in society. We are not talking about hypothetical scenarios - we are talking about real people, real lives, and real consequences. Our elected representatives must prioritize the health and well-being of their constituents over the bottom lines of billionaires. Medicaid is a lifeline - we can’t let it become a casualty of budget cuts.”
Last weekend, Rep. Ryan Mackenzie joined the conservative group Americans for Prosperity to knock on doors in his district and encourage constituents to support extending tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy, claiming the bill would bring down the “cost of living.” There are 168,559 residents in Mackenzie’s district who benefit from Medicaid and 112,195 who rely on SNAP - both programs are on the chopping block in this bill.
Rep. Rob Bresnahan had previously promised that he would “not support any legislation that cuts benefits for the people of Northeast Pennsylvania that they depend upon.” Last week in the House Agriculture Committee markup, he voted for up to $300 billion in cuts to SNAP. Bresnahan represents 145,913 people who rely on SNAP.
Rep. Scott Perry has claimed the bill does not go far enough and pushed for further cuts to Medicaid. Over 180,000 of Perry’s constituents benefit from Medicaid.
