As Congress Marks Anniversary of Republican Tax Law, Pennsylvania Families Ask: Who Is It Really Working For?

Affordable Pennsylvania urges Reps. Rob Bresnahan, Ryan Mackenzie, and Scott Perry to consider constituents who are struggling with medical, food and gasoline costs

PENNSYLVANIA — As the U.S. House of Representatives prepares to vote on a non-binding resolution commemorating the anniversary of the Republican Tax Law, Affordable Pennsylvania is calling on Pennsylvania’s U.S. Reps. Rob Bresnahan, Ryan Mackenzie, and Scott Perry to instead, use this moment to meet with the people affected, and to reckon with the gap between the promises they made and the votes they have cast.

These legislators have consistently supported a legislative agenda that prioritizes billionaire tax breaks over the essential needs of Pennsylvania families. All three congressmen voted for the 2025 Republican Tax Law, which enacted the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in history—threatening healthcare for approximately 310,000 Pennsylvanians and food assistance for thousands.

"The question isn't whether this law deserves to be commemorated," said Rachele Fortier, Executive Director of Affordable Pennsylvania. "The question is whether the families paying the price deserve to be heard. Representatives Bresnahan, Mackenzie, and Perry promised to lower costs and put working families first. This anniversary should be a moment to listen to the constituents who are asking them to keep those promises—not celebrate legislation that puts their health care, food security, and economic stability at risk."

"Following his catastrophic brain injury, my son Alex can't speak for himself anymore, so I'm speaking for him," said Paula of Cumberland County - Rep. Scott Perry’s district. "My husband and I worked hard our entire lives and saved for retirement, but without Medicaid, we'd lose everything trying to pay for Alex's care. Representatives who promised to protect Medicaid need to remember that families like mine are the ones living with the consequences of their votes."

Affordable Pennsylvania is urging members of Congress to use this anniversary as an opportunity to engage with the Pennsylvanians who have shared their stories, acknowledge the real-world impacts of the Republican Tax Law, and demonstrate that their commitment to working families extends beyond campaign promises.
