Rep. Perry Supports Trump’s Tariffs and the War in Iran That Are Driving Higher Prices

Cumberland County, PENNSYLVANIA - Rising costs took center stage during Trump Administration Small Business Administrator Kelly Loeffler’s visit to a local business in Camp Hill with Congressman Scott Perry when one of the factory leaders admitted that cost-raising tariffs impacted their customers and supply chain.

“Pennsylvanians are being hit hard by tariffs on personal and professional levels. I see higher costs at the grocery store and higher costs when I’m sourcing beans for my roastery and everything else for my coffeeshops - they’re inescapable. On top of the rising cost of gas, health care, housing, and more, these tariffs are almost too much,” said Andrea, owner of local coffee shop and roastery Elementary Coffee Co. “I don’t understand why Congressman Scott Perry continues to defend and support Trump’s tariffs. They’re raising costs on his constituents, hurting Pennsylvania businesses, and the Supreme Court ruled against them. It’s time for Congressman Perry to actually listen to his constituents who are asking him to stand up to tariffs and fight for lower costs.”

Tariffs are raising prices on working families, small businesses, and consumers across the Commonwealth and cost Pennsylvania an estimated $4 billion over the last year. More than 6 in 10 Americans disapprove of Trump’s tariff policy. Despite this, Congressman Perry has continually supported Trump’s illegal tariff, voting six times over the last year to keep the president’s sweeping tariffs in place.

Congressman Perry also tried to shift the blame for higher energy costs that are rising thanks in part to Rep. Perry’s vote to repeal clean energy tax credits in the Republican Taw Law. Clean energy subsidies help to lower electricity and gas prices, create hundreds of thousands of jobs, and expand U.S. energy independence. These cuts will bring higher home energy costs, increase the cost of gas, and lead to 760,000 job losses nationwide. Congressman Scott Perry also supports the war in Iran, voting against a resolution to curb President Trump’s powers in the Iran war earlier this month. This war is jacking up the cost of oil and consequently, the cost of gas. And since more than 40% of American electricity is generated from natural gas, electric bills will also increase.

  • Company leaders seemed reluctant to say whether the Trump Administration’s tariffs were helping when asked about their net impact.

  • “The tariffs – um, they affect our customers, they affect our supply chain, but we are somewhat immune to it because we’ve been an American manufacturer for over 100 years,” Amsted Industries General Counsel member Chris Athas said.

  • This comes as the Iran conflict intensifies and energy prices grow. Some people say that isn’t consistent with the “America First” agenda they voted for in 2024.

  • Perry said Republicans are focused on lowering prices by bringing down the supply of energy.
