PENNSYLVANIA – Pennsylvanians continue to face higher gas and household costs as the conflict with Iran disrupts global oil markets. Last night, the House passed a resolution requiring the president to seek further congressional approval for continued military action in Iran. Pennsylvania Reps. Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan and Scott Perry voted against the resolution.

Here are some impacts the war is having on households:

• The war in Iran has created a total U.S. consumer burden of over $107B.

• Diesel fuel is up over 70% since the war started, hitting a massive $6.41 per gallon in PA

• Gas prices in Pennsylvania have risen sharply since the conflict began, with regular fuel prices reaching $4.50 per gallon statewide costing households $330 more

“For many Pennsylvania workers, higher gas prices are not simply an inconvenience—they can change the choices people make about their lives,” said Rachele Fortier, Executive Director of Affordable Pennsylvania. “We’ve heard from people who have had to reconsider or even leave jobs because the cost of commuting was eating up so much of their paycheck that the job no longer made financial sense. When fuel costs rise, the impact can reach far beyond the gas pump, affecting where people work, how far they can travel and how much money they have left for groceries, housing and other basic needs.”

Higher diesel and fuel prices don’t just affect drivers at the pump—they raise costs throughout the economy. Diesel powers the trucks, farm equipment and other heavy vehicles that move food and goods across the country, so higher fuel costs can mean higher grocery, shipping and delivery prices. Households that rely on heating oil can also face higher winter heating bills. Pennsylvania families shouldn’t have to absorb higher costs every time global events drive up fuel prices.
