Constituents Delivered a Petition Calling on Bresnahan to Reverse SNAP and Medicaid Cuts

December 16, 2025

Scranton, PENNSYLVANIA —  Yesterday, Rep. Bresnahan’s Soaring Costs campaign, which includes Affordable Pennsylvania, Unrig Our Economy, and Action Together NEPA, marched to Congressman Rob Bresnahan’s office to deliver a petition with over three hundred constituent signatures demanding that he restore funding to Medicaid and SNAP.

“When I was in college, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Due to the original Trump Tax Scam in 2017, she was kicked off of Tricare and put onto Medicaid. If she had not died before this summer’s Republican Tax Law passed, she likely would have been kicked off of Medicaid and my family would have had to pay thousands of dollars a month out of pocket to keep my mother alive,” said Andrew Payne, PA-08 constituent. “This is not a price that anyone should have to pay to care for themselves or their loved ones, rich or poor, and it is why I am calling on my congressman, Rob Bresnahan, to do his job and protect his constituents' healthcare.”

Congressman Bresnahan voted for historic cuts to these assistance programs in the Republican Tax Law this summer. These cuts will devastate Pennsylvanians’ health care and threaten the very fate of federal food assistance in the Commonwealth. Of the Pennsylvania delegation that supported these cuts, Bresnahan represents the most SNAP recipients, with over 145,000 constituents who rely on the federal food assistance benefits, as well as over 200,000 constituents on Medicaid.

  • Personally hand-delivering petitions, community members in Northeastern Pennsylvania took their concerns to Congressman Rob Bresnahan’s office, urging him to reverse cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.

  • The petition that was created follows Bresnahan's vote in favor of reductions that some say could impact healthcare and food assistance for thousands of local residents.

  • The organizations present at the petition delivery were Affordable Pennsylvania, Action Together NEPA, and Unrig our Economy.

  • “We're out here today because many Americans are very concerned, as we head into the holidays about affordability, and specifically with the rise of health care costs going into next year. So, we're out here because this did not come out of nowhere. Congressman Rob Bresnahan had several opportunities all year long to lower the cost and keep it as what it was for the last several years,” said Shawn Reilly.
