HARRISBURG – On Tuesday, August 4, residents from across Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District gathered at Italian Lake Park Pavilion for “Navigating the Rough Seas of Affordability: Scott Perry, Throw Us a Lifeline!” a community theater protest about the growing affordability crisis facing PA-10 families.

Using oversized waves of blue chiffon, signs representing household expenses, personal storytelling and audience participation, residents transformed the Italian Lake Pavilion into a turbulent sea representing the financial pressures families face every day. The performance brought together community members to highlight affordability challenges—including rising costs for groceries, health care, utilities, housing, childcare, gas, school meals and other necessities—while sharing personal stories about the difficult choices those costs are forcing families to make and calling on Congressman Scott Perry to listen to the people he represents.

“Every day, families in PA-10 are being asked to stretch a little further—to pay a little more for groceries, keep the lights on, fill a prescription, or keep a roof over their heads,” said Aminah, a PA-10 resident who participated in the performance. “We are intentionally being dramatic with this protest because these struggles are real, and people are tired of feeling like no one in Washington is listening. We need Congressman Perry to understand what families are facing and start fighting to make life more affordable. What will it take to get his attention?”

Congressman Perry's vote for the Republican Tax Law, which made the largest cuts to SNAP in the program's history to give tax breaks to billionaires, will make it even harder for Pennsylvanians to put food on the table at a time when food insecurity is already affecting one in eight Pennsylvanians; At least 210,000 Pennsylvanians have already lost access to this vital nutrition benefit, 60,000 of them children. Combined with his support for cost-raising tariffs, allowing ACA health care tax credits to expire, and supporting continued military action in Iran, Scott Perry has cost his constituents $3,900 more with his reckless votes, and must take action to reduce costs for Pennsylvanians.
