ICYMI: Affordable Pennsylvania Helps NEPA Families Choose Health Care Plans

Pennsylvanians Will See An Average Premium Increase of 102% in 2026

November 4, 2025

PENNSYLVANIA - This weekend, Affordable Pennsylvania joined local community leaders and insurance professionals in hosting an event to help NEPA families understand their insurance options and make confident choices about their healthcare coverage. Experts answered questions and provided personalized guidance on selecting the most appropriate plan.

"As small business owners who have purchased healthcare through Pennie since 2021, the expiring tax subsidies mean my husband and I are at risk of not being able to purchase healthcare coverage next year. The over $10,000 a year we already pay in premiums could double," said Michelle Rothenbecker, PA-08 constituent. "If we can continue to purchase coverage, the increase likely means choosing lesser coverage, paying more out of pocket, and living in fear that one unforeseen emergency could plunge us into medical debt. And with Medicaid and SNAP seemingly at risk, we may no longer have a safety net in case of a major emergency."

Open enrollment for Pennsylvania's health insurance marketplace began Saturday, November 1st. As the enhanced tax credits that kept premiums low are set to expire, nearly half a million people who use the marketplace to get their health care could see costs soar, with an average increase of 102% statewide expected in 2026.
