Harrisburg Community Members Called on Rep. Perry to Reverse Health Care Cuts and End the Government Shutdown
October 23, 2025
Harrisburg, PENNSYLVANIA - On Tuesday, concerned community members came together with Affordable Pennsylvania and local partners in Harrisburg to call on their congressman Scott Perry and Republicans in Congress to reverse their harmful health care cuts, work towards lower costs, and reopen the government.
“I’m out here on behalf of the millions of veterans and military families that depend on Medicaid, which Congressman Perry voted to cut in order to fund bigger billionaire tax breaks,” said Merrick Green, U.S. Air Force veteran and PA-10 constituent. “Our nation should honor the promises it made to us veterans. Instead, these Medicaid cuts and this government shutdown are bringing rising costs and uncertainty to our veterans, our active duty servicemembers, and their families. I urge my congressman, Scott Perry, to reverse these harmful health care cuts and reopen the federal government.”
This shutdown comes amidst an ongoing health care spending fight in Washington. This summer, Congressman Perry voted to pass legislation that pays for tax breaks for the wealthy by taking health care away from millions of people. The cuts made in this legislation will rip care away from more than half a million Pennsylvanians, threaten hundreds of thousands of health care jobs, and will shutter rural hospitals across the Commonwealth. Last month, Rep. Perry supported a funding bill that failed to reverse these devastating health care cuts for working families and permanently extend tax credits that 17,000 Pennsylvanians in PA-10 rely on for affordable health care. Without this health care tax credit, monthly premiums for Pennie enrollees in Perry’s district are expected to increase by 170% on average.
