PENNSYLVANIA - As we honor the great sacrifices made by our nation's veterans, Affordable Pennsylvania calls on Congressmen Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan, and Scott Perry, who himself served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, to prioritize veterans’ benefits over enriching billionaires.
“My daughter Ashlynn has Down Syndrome. Without Medicaid, we wouldn’t have been able to afford her special doctor’s appointments that have helped her live a life she deserves,” said Air Force veteran and PA-07 constituent Mark Roth. “Veterans and military families have sacrificed so much for this country. Ryan Mackenzie has sold us out. He needs to stand up for the Americans who fought to protect this nation and the American Dream, not be an accomplice in its demise by cutting programs that veterans and military families rely on like SNAP and Medicaid.”
This summer, Reps. Mackenzie, Bresnahan, and Perry voted for the largest cuts in history for Medicaid and SNAP. Medicaid currently provides health care coverage to 1 in 10 veterans - about 1.6 million people - with 3.4 million children of veterans depending on Medicaid for their health care. Nationwide, SNAP helps 1.2 million veterans put food on the table. In Pennsylvania, approximately 11% of veterans are on Medicaid, while 9% rely on SNAP. Earlier this year, all three voted for a bill that would cut a Department of Veterans Affairs fund meant to cover costs for illnesses linked to military burn pits and other chemical exposure.
