“I'm Disappointed”: Constituents Speak Out on PA Congressmen’s Vote That Threatens Critical Assistance Programs

The Congressmen Voted for an Amendment that Risks Programs that Serve Working Families

March 19, 2026

PENNSYLVANIA - Yesterday, Congressmen Mackenzie, Bresnahan, and Perry voted for legislation that prevents the government from increasing the deficit, forcing Congress to choose between different budget priorities. As this Congress has prioritized spending their budget on tax breaks for the wealthy elite over spending that helps working Americans, this vote puts Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other critical federal programs that Pennsylvanians rely on at risk.

“I have faced serious health challenges, including more than five surgeries on my ankle and leg. Despite my ongoing pain and limited mobility, I continue to work part-time caring for others as a home health aide. My job doesn’t offer benefits and my income isn’t enough to cover my basic needs, so I rely on Medicaid and SNAP to survive,” said Krysten of Scranton. “These congressmen already voted to cut these programs that help me get by, leading me to lose my SNAP benefits. They’ve prioritized giving taxpayer money to the richest among us instead of funding the programs that help everyday people. And that’s with no limit on spending. How can we trust them to prioritize our needs now, when they didn't before? I’m disappointed in my congressman, Rob Bresnahan, for supporting this amendment and I’m calling on him to fight for Pennsylvanians like me, not billionaires.”

Last summer, Congressmen Mackenzie, Bresnahan, and Perry voted for the historic cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, programs that help almost 3 million Pennsylvanians access care and over 2 million put food on the table, including over hundreds of thousands in their districts. This legislation increased the deficit by trillions to pay for huge tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations, enriching the wealthy at the expense of their constituents and the national debt. Affordable Pennsylvania calls on these Congressmen to prioritize helping everyday Pennsylvanians over billionaires.
