Pennsylvania U.S. Congressmen Mackenzie, Bresnahan, And Perry Voted To Continue Tariffs on Canada, PA’s Biggest International Trade Partner

PENNSYLVANIA - Following their vote yesterday to bar any checks on Trump’s tariff power until July, Congressmen Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan, and Scott Perry once again voted to continue tariffs that are raising prices on Pennsylvanians - this time by voting to continue tariffs on Canada, Pennsylvania’s biggest international trade partner.

“As their constituents struggle to afford health care, groceries, housing, utilities, and other basic necessities, Congressmen Mackenzie, Bresnahan, and Perry voted to continue jacking up costs on Pennsylvania industry, consumers, and families,” said Rachele Fortier, executive director of Affordable Pennsylvania. “How are you serving your constituents by voting for higher costs while they struggle to get by? These congressmen need to stop bending the knee to Trump and try fighting for their constituents for a change.”

Congressmen Mackenzie, Bresnahan, and Perry have continually supported Trump’s tariff power, voting five times over the last year to keep the president’s sweeping tariffs in place. This vote to maintain tariffs on Canada is particularly harmful to Pennsylvania’s economy. About 27% of Pennsylvania’s exports - equaling billions of dollars in goods and services - go to Canada, and critical industries in the Commonwealth including manufacturing, agriculture, energy, and logistics rely on stable international supply chains.

More than 6 in 10 Americans disapprove of Trump’s tariff policy. Over the last year, these tariffs have driven inflation, contributed to rising unemployment rates, and put undue burdens on businesses, families, and consumers. New research from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that U.S. consumers bear a whopping 95% of Trump’s tariffs.
