SNAP Set To Run Out As Trump Administration Refuses To Fund Benefits

October 31, 2025

PENNSYLVANIA - Tomorrow, Pennsylvanians who rely on SNAP will not receive their November benefits due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

“Congressmen Mackenzie, Bresnahan, and Perry caused this shutdown by choosing to prioritize tax breaks for billionaires over lowering health care costs,” said Rachele Fortier, executive director of Affordable Pennsylvania. “Now, they’re playing the blame game while their constituents could go hungry. We call on these congressmen to stop endangering food assistance, permanently extend health care tax credits, and reopen the government.”

Congressmen Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan, and Scott Perry voted earlier this year to make massive cuts to SNAP to fund tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy, threatening the fate of food assistance in the Commonwealth. Last month, these congressmen failed to come to a deal that prioritizes Pennsylvania families and allowed the federal government to shut down, jeopardizing programs like SNAP. Now, funding for SNAP benefits is set to run out because the Trump administration has opted not to tap into emergency funds to deliver them.

Approximately 2 million Pennsylvanians rely on SNAP, including over 100,000 in each of Rep. Mackenzie, Bresnahan, and Perry’s districts.
