Rep. Mackenzie Has Failed to Act to Preserve Tax Credits He Claims to Support
Without This Health Care Tax Credit, Monthly Premiums for Pennie Enrollees in PA-07 Will Increase by 80% On Average
October 15, 2025
Lehigh Valley, PENNSYLVANIA - Despite claiming to support an extension of the enhanced health care tax credits that face expiration at the end of the year, Mackenzie has failed to take any action to actually do so - threatening to skyrocket healthcare costs for tens of thousands of his constituents.
“Congressman Mackenzie and his Republican colleagues in Congress caused this shutdown by choosing to prioritize tax breaks for billionaires over reversing their harmful cuts to health care and permanently extending a tax credit that benefits tens of thousands of their constituents ,” said Rachele Fortier, executive director of Affordable Pennsylvania. “Actions speak louder than words - Rep. Mackenzie can claim to support these tax credits, but his actions in Washington tell a different story. We call on Rep. Mackenzie to return to Congress this week and take actionable steps to permanently extend this health care tax credit and reopen the government.”
Ahead of the government funding deadline in September, the executive director of Pennie called for an extension of the tax credits in Congressman Mackenzie’s local paper, warning that if Congress allows them to expire, “Pennsylvania could see a full-scale reversal of the recent gains in access and affordability and could experience negative impacts across our health care system.” Just days later, Congressman Ryan Mackenzie voted for a measure that failed to reverse the harmful healthcare cuts he supported in the Republican Tax Law and then left DC, allowing the government to shut down.
Nearly half a million Pennsylvanians used Pennie to get their health insurance this year, including over 28,000 in the Lehigh Valley. Those 28,000 constituents of Mackenzie could see an 80% increase in premium costs if these credits expire. Without action from Rep. Mackenzie to permanently extend these tax credits, 21,000 working Pennsylvanians and their families will face these steep increases in health care costs.
